For years I avoided using MIDI in the studio because it seemed more hassle than its worth. I figured that if something sounded natural enough being played live, then that’s good enough for me. Factoring in latency, general confusion regarding getting patches set to the right channels, hundreds of controller values, etc., it seemed the easier choice.
Now, as a result of moving to a smaller space, I’ve been forced into using MIDI. Overall, it’s been a benefit. My audio tracks are sounding better, I can do decent orchestrations, and I can fix little glitches. But there’s a part of me that misses the ease of turning on the Jupiter-6 and just recording my synth lines.
That’s what Joomla is like. Joomla is the new back-end for mphtower.com. Odds are good that if you know me, you are currently reading this blog on my site now. Joomla offers me the ability to update my site more frequently as well as making it more attractive and dynamic. Great!
Unfortunately, it’s also a total pain. With all the options this content management system (CMS) provides, I’m lost as to where to go. There are sections and categories and wrappers and separators and articles and newsfeeds and blogs (but they aren’t blogs like this one). Sorting through all of this stuff has taken me days.
On the other hand, all things worth doing take time to learn how to do them right. I just wish I could hook up the Jupiter-6 to this website and get it done with.
